This was written prior to Friday's races, a two-day recap will be summarized Sunday. Meanwhile, there are two value plays for Saturday. Race 8 Unfurl the Flag has never run long on grass, but as a son of Bertrando he should be right at home. This is not a strong field of older turf runners, and Unfurl the Flag has trained super since a good third in the seven-furlong Triple Bend. If he shakes loose out front he has a shot to wire the field. Unfurl the Flag must beat Becrux and Captain Squire, and is worth a gamble even if he gets bet down from his 8-1 morning line. The bet: $25 win Unfurl the Flag (minimum odds 6-1). Race 9 Dilemma finished full of run in his debut, and the 2-year-old colt should improve a ton second time out for trainer Paddy Gallagher. Doubt that he'll start anywhere close to his morning line of 5-1, but since he is the most likely winner, he is worth a bet at 3-1. The bet: $25 win Dilemma (minimum odds 3-1). (Totals below are after Thursday; Friday-Saturday totals will be updated tomorrow). Total wagers previous day: $60. Total return previous day: $0. Total win/loss previous day: minus $60. Total wagers for meet: $310. Total return for meet: $0. Total win/loss for meet: minus $310.
