Free Fee Lady stuns Embur's Song in Bison City


ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Free Fee Lady, the longest shot in the four-horse field, upset 1-10 favorite Embur's Song at Woodbine on Sunday in the $250,000 Bison City Stakes, the second leg of the Canadian triple tiara for Canadian-bred 3-year-old fillies.

Free Fee Lady raced in third on the backstretch of the 1 1/16-mile race, as Embur's Song set fast fractions while being pressed by Oil Painting. Free Fee Lady commenced a wide rally on the far turn under Emma Wilson, and then hit the front at the three-sixteenths pole before drawing off to prevail by four lengths, in a time of 1:44.02.

Embur's Song finished a clear second over Oil Painting, and Ernfold trailed the field.

Free Fee Lady returned $32 in a race with win wagering only. She collected $157,500 for Harlequin Ranches and trainer Reade Baker.

*Utterly Cool ($5.30) helped set a slow pace before drawing clear to take the $100,400 Ontario Jockey Club Stakes by two lengths over Grazettes Landing.

With Patrick Husbands riding for trainer Sid Attard, Utterly Cool covered seven furlongs on the grass in a quick 1:19.58. Utterly Cool earned $60,000 for the Jim Dandy Stable.
