Freakonthelead crashed the $100,000 Pelican at 70-1 Saturday night at Delta Downs, where he drove to a half-length win one start after capturing a maiden special weight at the Vinton, La. track. There was a dead heat for second between favorite Underpressure and Magic Vow.  The Pelican, which was for 3-year-olds bred in Louisiana, was one of two restricted stakes on the card. Wildcat Wish ($7.20) darted to a six-length win over Mageez in the $70,000 Fremont.  Jockey Luis Negron was aboard for St. George Stable and trainer Efren Loza Jr. Freakonthelead ($143) tracked fractions of 24.42 seconds for the opening quarter and 49.70 for the half-mile before covering seven furlongs on a fast track in 1:27.46. The race was run around two turns. Timothy Thornton was aboard for Whispering Oaks Farm and trainer Steve Flint. Freakonthelead had won a maiden race for Louisiana-breds one start prior to the Pelican, breaking from post 10 in a 6 1/2-furlong race that was run around two turns at Delta. He is a son of Run Production.
