Frankel to travel north

Bobby Frankel, who guided Ghostzapper, owned by Stronach Stable, to a Horse of the Year campaign in 2004, will be owner Frank Stronach's No. 1 trainer at Woodbine this year.

Frankel, based in California, plans to continue to maintain divisions there and in New York, and said he expects to visit Woodbine "probably twice a month."

Brian Lynch, a former trainer and now a Frankel assistant based in Florida, will oversee the daily operation of the Woodbine barn.

"I liked the idea," said Frankel, who was approached by Stronach to take charge of a division at Woodbine. "The purses are good up there."

Mike Rogers, who assists in Stronach's racing and breeding operations, said Stronach Stable would have 40 stalls at Woodbine with approximately 25 slated for Frankel and the other 15 for Justin Nixon, who last year was based at Fort Erie and later at Stronach's nearby Adena Springs North.

Danny Vella, a longtime Stronach trainer, and Mike Keogh, who trained for the outfit for the first time last year, are the odd men out under the new arrangement.
