Frankel pair get in breezes

Two of trainer Bobby Frankel's stakes-bound runners who haven't raced recently got in workouts Wednesday at Belmont Park. On a muddy main track, Latent Heat and Melhor Ainda each breezed a half-mile.

Latent Heat, third behind Brother Derek in the Santa Catalina back in March, went in 48.82 seconds.

Melhor Ainda, winner of last year's Sands Point but unraced since finishing seventh in the Flower Bowl Invitational in October, went in 47.07 seconds, the second fastest of 10 works at the distance.

"We took chips out of her ankles last fall," said Frankel about Melhor Ainda. "She had her second work back and she's doing great. I'm pointing her for the Diana. I don't know if she'll have a race before that."

The Diana is scheduled for July 29 at Saratoga.

Frankel also said he plans to run Woodford Reserve runner-up Cacique in the Grade 1, $400,000 Manhattan Handicap on Belmont Stakes Day.
