France: Natagora beats males again

Natagora made it four in a row against colts at Maisons-Laffitte, blazing her way to victory in the Group 2, $179,000 Prix Robert Papin. Trained by Pascal Bary, the filly defeated another filly, the Italian-bred Magritte, by three-quarters of a length, covering the straight 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:03.02 on good ground.

Ridden by Christophe Lemaire, the 9-10 Natagora led every step of the way, defeating four British-trained colts and adding to her victories in the listed Prix La Fleche and the Group 3 Prix du Bois, both at 5 furlongs. Her next stop will be the 6-furlong Group 1 Prix Morny at Deauville on August 19.

* On the same card, Stormy River ended a 5-race losing streak in winning the one-mile Group 3, $110,000 Group 3 Prix Messidor. The Nicolas Clement-trained son of Verglas, winless since taking the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat last July, was timed in a swift 1:33.90, defeating Satri by 1-1/2 lengths as the 2-1 favorite under Thierry Thulliez.
