Fox on a Ridge must deal with outside post

EmailEDMONTON, Alberta - Fox on a Ridge will have to overcome the outside post if she is to win her third career victory in Friday's feature at Northlands Park.

The one-mile allowance for 3- and 4-year-old fillies who have never won three races drew a field of eight.

Fox on a Ridge runs her best races from midpack, a style that fits this race profile nicely, and she is one of just two fillies with a win at the distance. Most of the field is made up of sprinters stretching out, and the pace figures to be strong in the early stages.

Rider Perry Winters has been aboard for each of Fox on a Ridge's six starts this season, resulting in two wins and three seconds.

Trainer Wendy Kadar, enjoying a fine meeting here, saddles Fox on a Ridge, who defeated Minimus by six lengths in a mile race here Aug. 6.

Minimus came back to post a handy score in the one-mile Sales Stakes for 3-year-old fillies last week.

Dawn of Fame is the other entrant with a win going a mile, in last fall's Freedom of the City for 2-year-old fillies. Dawn of Fame has not regained her juvenile form in six starts this year for trainer Bruce Phelan and was a distant fourth to Fox on a Ridge in her latest.

Cagey Dee, Grape Escape, and Viva Vavoom are candidates to contest the early lead but remain suspect at the distance.
