Four jockeys suspended for riding infractions

ARCADIA, Calif. – Four jockeys, including leading rider Santiago Gonzalez, were given three-day suspensions for riding infractions at Santa Anita last week.

Gonzalez, who is suspended from Friday through Sunday, was cited for his ride on Perfect Set, the winner of the third race last Friday. The stewards ruled that Gonzalez allowed Perfect Set to cross over without clearance in the first turn. There was no inquiry after the race.

Tiago Pereira is suspended from Friday through Sunday for his ride on Goodlookinwife, who finished fourth in the fifth race last Friday. Pereira was ruled to have crossed over without clearance in the stretch.

Abel Lezcano is suspended this Saturday and Sunday and next Thursday after Mr. Count On Me was disqualified from first to third for causing interference in the stretch of the sixth race last Saturday.

Edwin Maldonado is suspended this Saturday and Sunday and next Thursday for his ride on Xerxes, who won the third race last Saturday. Maldonado was cited for failing to maintain a straight course after the start.

So the stewards dont get a suspension for allowing a winner to cutoff horses ? Can purses handed out to the real winners ? The justice system in california is very confusing ?
