HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Toccet, the 3-year-old who is widely regarded as one of the top candidates for the spring classics, is scheduled to arrive in south Florida early next week and will make his first start of the year in the Grade 1 Fountain of Youth Stakes Feb. 15 at Gulfstream, trainer John Scanlan said Thursday at Gulfstream Park.

Toccet, whose six victories from eight starts include wins in the Grade 1 Champagne and Grade 1 Hollywood Futurity, is in training at Laurel Park, where he "is doing fabulous," said Scanlan.

Scanlan said Toccet will probably train for the 1 1/16-mile Fountain of Youth at Palm Meadows, the new training center located a 45-minute drive from Gulfstream in Boynton Beach.

Scanlan and owner Dan Borislow have mapped out the colt's campaign leading into the May 3 Kentucky Derby. The other scheduled preps are the March 15 Florida Derby at Gulfstream and the April 12 Wood Memorial at Aqueduct.

Toccet is among the three Eclipse Award finalists for top 2-year-old of 2002. Besides the Champagne and Hollywood Futurity, he also won the Laurel Futurity and Remsen Stakes but finished ninth by 16 lengths in one of his two defeats, the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.

Vindication, the solid favorite for the Eclipse in the division, won the BC Juvenile to remain unbeaten in four starts.
