Former trainer Dravo Foley dies

Dravo Foley, a trainer for 50 years and the patriarch of a successful family of Kentucky horsemen, died Monday night at Kindred Hospital in Louisville, Ky., following a lengthy bout with pneumonia. He was 75.

Foley, a native of Russell Springs, Ky., was a jockey before he turned to a training career in which he won 1,123 races when based primarily in Kentucky. His best horses were stakes winners Tiger Lure, Jeanie's Fancy, and Convenient, and he also bred and raised Taylor's Special, winner of the 1984 Blue Grass Stakes.

Foley's son, Greg, and daughter Vickie long have been trainers of prominence in Kentucky and elsewhere. Dravo Foley, who was widowed, also is survived by two other daughters, Sharon and Lisa. Arrangements are being handled by Stoess Funeral Home in Crestwood, Ky.
