Former racing executive Hale elected to TRF board

Longtime racing executive Lenny Hale has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation.

Hale worked for the New York Racing Association for over a decade, and upon his departure, was senior vice president of racing and properties. He also formerly served as vice president of racing for the Maryland Jockey Club. During his career, Hale has worked in a number of other capacities, including starter, paddock, placing and patrol judge, and racing secretary at tracks such as Hialeah Park, Garden State Park, Delaware Park, Calder Race Course and Colonial Downs.

Hale has also been a trainer and consultant and handled the boarding of broodmares and lay-ups at Rockburn Farm in Virginia.

“Thoroughbred racing has been very good to me throughout my long career from hotwalker and exercise rider/pony boy to senior vice president of racing for the NYRA and the Maryland Jockey Club," Hale said. "I am honored to be accepted on [the TRF] board and will certainly do everything in my power to advance the mission of the organization.”

Hale joins Robin Ganzert, Mike Lakow, John Moore, Suzie O’Cain, Diana Pikulski, Hayward Pressman, Leslie Priggen and Peggy Santulli on the TRF board.

“I have known and respected Lenny for many years and feel his experience, expertise and passion for Thoroughbreds makes him a perfect addition for the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation board," TRF chief executive officer Lakow said.
