Forget It prevails in Southern California Derby


CYPRESS, Calif. – Forget It won his third derby of 2015 in the $134,150 Southern California Derby at Los Alamitos on Sunday, a race that could be the gelding’s final start in California.

Co-owner Jim Streelman said in the winner’s circle that Forget It has been the subject of inquiry from owners in Mexico who are interested in a private purchase for match racing in that country in 2016. If Forget It remains in California, he will be pointed for the Vessels Maturity next summer, Streelman said. The Vessels Maturity is one of the top races of the year for older Quarter Horses at Los Alamitos.

Forget It ($7.80) led throughout the Southern California Derby at 400 yards to win by three-quarters of a length over 9-5 favorite Sass Me Blue. Walk the Catwalk, a 28-1 shot, finished a nose behind Sass Me Blue for third in the field of 10.

Forget It was timed in 19.92 seconds and earned $56,343 for Streelman and co-owner and trainer Jaime Gomez. Forget It has won 10 of 16 starts and earned $525,124.

By Foose, Forget It won the El Primero Del Ano Derby in April and the Governor’s Cup Derby in July. He was third behind Heza Dasha Fire in the Los Alamitos Super Derby in November. Heza Dasha Fire won the $600,000 Champion of Champions against older horses Dec. 12 and is a leading candidate for the 2015 title of World Champion Running Quarter Horse.
