Forever Grand captures New Providence Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Forever Grand overcame an awkward break to capture the $127,625 New Providence Stakes at Woodbine Sunday.

Forever Grand bobbled at the start of the six-furlong dash, and trailed the four-horse field of Ontario-sired runners early, as Krz Ruckus and favored Mulligan the Great dueled through fractions of :22.29 and :45.96 seconds.

Forever Grand loomed into contention on the turn, and split horses inside the eighth pole before drawing off to win by two lengths, in a final time of 1:10.96. Krz Ruckus bested Mulligan the Great by a neck for second, while Devastating finished a half-length behind the latter. Barbeau Ruckus was scratched.

"I had a bad break, and I thought it cost me the race, but he overcame it," said Todd Kabel, who rode the winner.

Forever Grand ($5.40) earned $80,404 for the partnership of Frank DiGiulio Jr. and trainer Bob Tiller.
