Forestry Type wins Prairie Mile

ALTOONA, Iowa - Forestry Type led wire to wire for a victory against six 3-year-old rivals in Saturday's $60,000 Prairie Mile.

Forestry Type broke from the outside and lead by four lengths early. He raced in the six path around the far turn and down the backside, setting fractions of 23.37 seconds, 46.95, and 1:12.30. Jockey Junior Alvarado said that he got Forestry Type to relax a bit and had enough left to finish. Forestry Type finished the mile in 1:38.27.

Slewzoom rallied from fifth place early to finish second, beaten 2 1/4 lengths.

"He ran great," winning trainer Dale Bennett said. "Off his last, the 23.37 didn't bother me. You just can't restrain him, he'll get rank"

Forestry Type went off as the favorite and returned $4.80.

Bennett said that he and owner John Santino of Savoy Stable would discuss the possibility of running Forestry Type in the Iowa Derby.

Remit rallies in Panthers

The favored Remit outfinished five rivals to win $60,000 Panthers for 3-year-old fillies going one mile.

Tornado Betty, who went off as the 5-2 second choice, led the field through fractions of 23.24, 46.97, and 1:12.74. Chandlers Heart stalked from the second position and got on even terms with the pacesetter at the top of the stretch. Jockey Glen Murphy dropped Remit back around the far turn and angled her to the outside for the stretch drive. Remit dueled with Chandlers Heart through the stretch and just prevailed by a neck at the end, finishing the mile in 1:37.83

Remit returned $3.80 for the win.

Remit is trained by Steve Asmussen and owned by the mother-and-son partnership of Joan and Ron Winchell's Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC.
