Forceful Intention looks gone

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Forceful Intention should be tough to catch in the feature race at Hastings Sunday. The 1 1/16-mile allowance race for 3-year-olds which have not won a stakes in 2006 drew five horses and goes as the third race.

Forceful Intention, who is trained by Michael Turner, fits the conditions of the race perfectly. He's coming off of two second-place finishes in stakes races, and in both the Richmond Derby Trial Sept. 3 and the Transac Derby Consolation Sept. 24 he held the lead heading into the stretch.

In the Richmond Derby Trial, Forceful Intention stalked an honest pace and then took over the lead, but gave in late to Seven Secrets. His second-place finish to Luhuk's Dancer in the Transac Derby Consolation was a very good effort. Breaking from post 10, Forceful Intention was hustled early in order to avoid a wide trip, and after setting very fast fractions he managed to hang on to finish two lengths clear of Sly Striker, who has also been entered in Sunday's race.

Forceful Intention drew the rail for Sunday's race and should have an easy time establishing a clear lead. Frank Fuentes will ride.

Undersecretary has a good late kick but he could have too much to do if Sly Striker doesn't push Forceful Intention's hand early. In his last start, Undersecretary finished second to He's Quite a Guy in a second-level optional $75,000 claiming race Oct. 21.
