Fonner Park track report

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - Three weeks ago in the 6 1/2-furlong Baxter Stakes, Hootiehoot, Intervene, and Tricky Alex were about as evenly matched as it gets.

The three will go at it again in a field of 10 in the $25,000-added colts and geldings division of the Fonner Park Special Stakes. For 3-year-old Nebraska-breds, the race is at six furlongs.

The trio were three abreast turning into the stretch and finished within three-quarters of a length of each other in the Baxter, finishing second, third, and fourth.

With recent maiden winners Homer's Hero and Rainy Bengal also in the Special, the race looks wide-open for a horse to notch his first stakes victory.

Homer's Hero was second to Intervene in a maiden race here on Feb. 28 and returned two weeks ago and scored by four lengths. He will be part of a strong coupled entry with Intervene for trainer David Anderson.

Hootiehoot has not been worse than third in his three starts this year. He showed he could handle the distance in the Baxter after a rough start.
