Fonner Park track report

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - Perry Compton's dominance of the rider standings at Fonner Park continued last weekend when he put together a pair of four-win days, the eighth time he has accomplished the feat this meet.

The fans have kept the pressure on the 50-year-old Compton. Over the past weekend he rode the favorite in 19 of 31 races, winning with nine of those for a 47-percent success rate, compared to his winning percentage of 33 percent for all races. He has extended his lead over Jerry Carkeek in the standings to 61-26 and can now take aim at his own record of 80 wins for a meet set in 2000.

Compton usually leaves to ride at Prairie Meadows, which opens its season April 18. With three weekends of racing before that date arrives, the record seems easily within Compton's reach.
