Fonner Park: My Halo never better

My Halo returns to action off his first stakes victory, which came in the Fonner Park Special Stakes, and faces seven others in the $15,000-added Baxter Stakes at 6 1/2 furlongs.

My Halo is enjoying a two-race win streak despite leaving the gate slowly in both of his starts this year. He closed from well back to win a first-level allowance race on Feb. 25, then returned with a strong run late to take the Fonner Special by three-quarters of a length. My Halo has R. D. Williams aboard from post 3 and is part of an uncoupled entry for trainer David Anderson.

Anderson also sends out Oaklawn Park invader Shod in Fire, a front-runner who could prove dangerous. Jill Kaenel will ride from post 4.

Mr Tire, trained by Bill Conyers, has two wins here. He won his maiden at first asking on opening weekend then tried stakes company in the half-mile Bachman Stakes. After a rough start he finished fourth. He returned with a solid allowance victory on March 10. Dennis Collins rides from post 2.

Skwhirl has been slowly rounding into form this year. Winner of the State Fair Futurity in Lincoln and the Columbus Futurity last year, Skwhirl showed signs of coming into his own this year with a third-place finish to My Halo in the Fonner Special. Apprentice Tanner Riggs rides from post 8.
