Fonner: Flaming Night goes for three

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - Flaming Night will try for a third straight victory Saturday when she heads a field of nine Nebraska-bred 3-year-olds in the fillies division of the $30,000-added Fonner Park Special Stakes at six furlongs.

Flaming Night turned some heads with her $74 upset win in the March 9 Islander Stakes, in which she won her maiden by over four lengths. She returned March 24 against nonwinners-of-two allowance company, again winning by daylight.

Fernando Rojas has the return call on Flaming Night for trainer Brian Roberts. Flaming Night will race uncoupled in the wagering, although Roberts also sends out the Shady Bend Thoroughbreds-owned duo of Ginger Moon and Keylargo Lady.

Three recent arrivals from Oaklawn Park all appear to have solid chances in this spot.

Cube's Cub invades for owner-trainer Rick Engel off a solid third-place finish against $35,000 nonwinners-of-two claiming company on March 30. R.D. Williams will be in from Oaklawn to ride.

Astrickyas, trained by David Anderson, won her maiden here March 28 after starting the year out in Arkansas. Anderson also sends out his own Sweeitgunzallus with Armando Martinez up. The pair will be uncoupled in the wagering.

Ricky Gustafson brings in Talk Too, who most recently finished second against conditioned allowance company at Oaklawn going a mile. The turn back in distance and having Perry Compton in the saddle makes her a solid contender in this race.
