Fonner: Fillies look tougher than males in Bachman

A pair of fillies, Run Countess Run and Tammy, should prove formidable against the boys in the $10,000 Bachman Stakes at Fonner Park. The half-mile race for 3-year-olds has drawn a field of seven.

Run Countess Run comes to the barn of Brian Roberts following an East Coast campaign last year and early this year at tracks including Laurel, Charles Town, and Delaware.

She has good early speed and should be well situated here, coming off a 37-second breeze last Sunday. Larren Delorme will ride from post 6.

Tammy, trained by Marv Johnson, won her maiden here at a half-mile Feb. 22, by a widening 4 3/4 lengths, and will also merit watching. She returned against entry-level allowance company on March 2 and was third going six furlongs. She may be at her best going a half-mile and will have the recently arrived jockey David Lopez aboard from post 2.

Rio Tricky appears the best of the boys in this race, coming off a 1 1/2-length maiden win on Feb. 23. A son of Rio Verde trained by Kim Veerhusen, Rio Tricky will have Yuri Yaranga aboard.
