Fonner: Burning Memories starting '05

Burning Memories will make her much-anticipated 2005 debut when she faces six others in the $15,000-added Runza Handicap for older fillies and mares going six furlongs at Fonner Park.

Burning Memories, trained by Jim Cranwell, is the two-time defending champion in the Runza Handicap, and she should be well backed in her efforts to make it three straight. Although she is making her 2005 bow here, she has been working well. Her last three workouts have been at five furlongs, and she appears sharp as ever. Perry Compton will ride at 120 pounds.

Missy Can Do, the runner-up in this race last year, will be making her third start of the season and has been assigned top weight of 122 pounds. Trained by Joe Thomas, Missy Can Do captured the half-mile Bold Accent Handicap in near-track-record time on opening weekend. She took on males in a money-won allowance race here March 12, when she made the pace before weakening to third. Curtis Kimes will ride.

Up 'n Blumin, trained by Ken Kirby, comes into the Runza in search of her third straight victory this year. She most recently captured the Orphan Kist Handicap against statebreds and will again face a stiff class test in this, her second career stakes start. R.D. Williams has the ride.
