Fonner: Bold Accent lineup loaded with early speed

It could be anyone’s guess who can make the lead when a wide-open group of older fillies and mares meet in the $10,000 Bold Accent Stakes in Saturday’s featured race at Fonner Park.

The field of nine includes defending champ Prospectors Alycat plus several stakes winners and an abundance of front-end speed.

Terice, trained by Mike Kirby, collected 4 wins last year from 11 starts and will be seeking her first stakes score . A 5-year-old, Terice has fired a trio of bullet workouts going three furlongs in the past month and appears ready for the move up in company here and may rate the slight edge.

Prospectors Alycat, trained by Joe Hempstead, collected her only win from 5 starts in this spot last year but has posted a solid 4-3-0 mark from 9 career starts at Fonner.

Yellow Chumarine, trained by Jack McCartney, won the Pepsi Stakes here last year against 3-year-olds, then closed out her campaign with a pair of stakes wins at Les Bois Park in Boise, Idaho. She posted a 4-1-2 mark from 8 starts last year and was disqualified from another win in Idaho after getting out in the turn.

Stakes winners Nikkis Bold Gelato and Spice Swirl will also bear watching here. Nikkis Bold Gelato, now trained by David Anderson, won the Canadian-restricted $125,000 La Prevoyante Stakes at Woodbine for 3-year-old fillies going a mile on turf. Spice Swirl, a multiple stakes winner for trainer Brian Roberts, won a trio of stakes in Nebraska last year.
