Folsum aims to extend win streak

Folsum seeks his third straight win in the 41st running of the $25,000-added CTBA Derby on Monday afternoon at Arapahoe Park. The James Jones-trained runner will be a solid favorite to win the 1 1/16-mile race, which attracted a field of seven.

Folsum is coming off a front-running score in the Colorado Derby for open company on Julyo22, his third win from six starts this season. After a disappointing effort in the Aspen on June 18, he has been a horse for the course, winning two straight starts. He wired a field of mid-level allowance runners in a mile outing on July 7 and then used a the same style to win the 1o1/16-mile Colorado Derby.

Folsum has posted all but one of his six victories at this oval in 12 career starts. The other win came at Sunland Park in the $50,000 Daylight Sprint.

Russell Vicchrilli again will ride Folsum for owners Willard Burbach and Cindy Jones.

Menoken Moon, winner of the CTBA Stallion Stakes on July 8, and Such a Deal, who finished second in that race, are given equal chances of upsetting the choice on the morning line.

Menoken Moon beat Such a Deal by a half-length in the seven-furlong Stallion Stakes, his second career win from 10 trips. Such a Deal has since notched his second career win, in first-level allowance company on July 23, in his ninth try.
