Fogelsonger tops Laurel


Apprentice jockey Ryan Fogelsonger, 21, won his third consecutive title on the Laurel-Pimlico circuit by finishing as the leading rider at Laurel Park's winter meet, which ended Sunday.

Fogelsonger rode 93 winners during the 13-week meet to finish 19 ahead of Ramon Dominguez. Mario Pino was third with 55 winners. Fogelsonger rode winners for 32 different trainers.

Scott Lake edged Dale Capuano as the meet's leading trainer, 29-28, thanks to So Social's victory in Sunday's seventh race. Capuano had a chance to tie for the title, but neither of two horses he saddled in the eighth race won. Jerry Robb finished third in the standings with 22 wins.

Michael Gill easily was the leading owner, winning 29 races in 154 starts with earnings of more than $560,000. Gustav Schickedanz was a distant second with 10 wins.

Maryland racing shifts to Pimlico beginning Wednesday.
