Fly to Me romps

After sitting back off the early pace, Fly to Me lived up to his even-money status, professionally taking over and drawing away to a 3 3/4-length victory in the $50,000 Jack Betta Be Rite Stakes at Finger Lakes.

With jockey John Davila Jr. content to stay near the back of the pack with Fly to Me, Hoosick Falls, with Paul Nichol Jr. up, went to the early lead, going a quarter-mile in 23.60 seconds and holding a five-length lead after a half-mile in 46.75. When the timer read 1:11.72 for six furlongs, Fly to Me had moved up to second and he had the lead when the field entered the stretch. From there, it was clear sailng to the wire.

Watral's Dahlia came on late, nipping Hoosick Falls for third by a nose. It was another 1 1/4 lengths back to fourth-place Prom Dance in the field of eight fillies and mares 3 and older.

Fly to Me ($4.10), trained by Michael Lecesse, ran the 1 1/16 miles in 1:48.04 on a fast track.
