Florida invader favored in Chantilly


WINNIPEG, Manitoba - A full field of nine 3-year-old fillies has been entered for Sunday's $30,000 Chantilly Stakes at six furlongs at Assiniboia.

Bitdaboss, the probable favorite, will be making her first start north of the border, having made her first eight appearances in Florida. Trained by Emile Corbel, Bitdaboss finished up the track in two stakes races at Tampa Bay Downs this winter.

Sassy Shonda will make her first start outside Alberta for trainer Tom Dodds. She has a first and second from three tries at Stampede Park this year.

Tricky Dee, trained by Patti Ross, won an allowance race here May 19 in her only start of the year and has won two of three lifetime.

Legstosee won her only outing of 2002, over allowance company May 31 at Marquis Downs. Trained by Larry Dagg, Legstosee is 2 for 2 in her career.

What Four, trained by Chad Torevell, finished third here in an allowance race against older mares in her only start of the year.

The complete field, from the rail out with riders, is Sassy Shonda, Jerry Pruitt; Cemmec, Danny Vergara; Sands Fury, Anderson Ward; What Four, Tim Gardiner; Torquilla, Manuel Alicea; Colombard, Robert Munoz; Legstosee, Gary Melanson; Bitdaboss, Jacques DesAutels; and Tricky Dee, Rohan Singh.

Stakes nominations

Nominations for the $30,000 Frank Arnason Sire Stakes for 2-year-olds, to be run June 22, closed Wednesday. The nominees are Bo Dippity, Dances for Durham, Fancy Bru, Hopetobeastar, Irish Treasure, Isle Dream, New Release, Pippy Dance, Where's Red, and With Delight.

Thursday was the deadline for nominations to the $30,000 Free Press for 3-year-olds and upward on June 23. The nominees are Beau Ring, Gus Again, He's a Ringer, Kalfaari, Kenyawin, Sterling Account, and Smoky Cinder.
