Flo the Blo strong on turf

SAN MATEO, Calif. - A field of 11 older turf horses go in Sunday's featured eighth race at Bay Meadows. The 1 1/16-mile, second-level allowance/optional claiming race carries a purse of $34,000 and will be run over the Longden Turf Course.

Flo the Blo is shipping in for Sunday's headliner and should be the choice. Flo the Blo finished fifth last out in the 1 3/8-mile Let It Ride.com Handicap at Del Mar after setting the pace to midstretch.

Flo the Blo won his previous start wire to wire, defeating allowance company by four lengths over the Del Mar turf course. He also won his maiden on the turf, at Santa Anita earlier this year.

A pair of Jerry Hollendorfer trainees, The Candi Kid and Clonmany, should provide the major threats to Flo the Blo on Sunday. The Candi Kid has won 2 of 3 starts so far this season and will be looking for his third straight win on Sunday.

The Candi Kid finished third in his first start this season after a year layoff and then won by a neck in allowance company at Vallejo. In his last start The Candi Kid tried the turf for the first time and won by a neck.

Clonmany was awarded first money last out in a 1 1/16-mile turf race via disqualification. Clonmany also won from well off the pace earlier this year at Santa Anita.

Storm Signal is another who figures to draw strong support in Sunday's feature. Last out, Storm Signal, a Simon Bray trainee, finished fourth in a strong allowance race at Del Mar. He won his previous try over the Hollywood Park turf course by a half-length after rallying from far back. Storm Signal also scored earlier this season over the Golden Gate turf course.
