Fleeta Dif tops Matchmaker at Remington

Fleeta Dif, who won two stakes during the recent Lone Star meet, heads a full field of 12 fillies and mares in the $40,000 Adena Springs Matchmaker Turf Sprint at Remington Park on Sunday. The winner of the five-furlong turf race is awarded a no-guarantee season to Milwaukee Brew, Alphabet Soup, or Gold Case.

Fleeta Dif was one of the fleetest mares this summer at Lone Star. She won the $50,000 JEH Stallion Station Stakes over 6 1/2 furlongs on May 15, then returned to capture the $50,000 Miller Lite over five furlongs on June 26. Rita Helton has the mount for trainer Tom Warren.

Others of note in the race include Frilly Fun, Queen of Mecca, and Louisiana Downs shipper Joyce Ann.

Delta Jackpot scheduled for Dec. 4

The $1 million Delta Jackpot for 2-year-olds will be held at Delta Downs in Vinton, La., on Dec. 4. The 1 1/16-mile race will share a program with the $250,000 Delta Princess Stakes for 2-year-old fillies.

The program will be the richest of the 101-night Thoroughbred meet at Delta Downs. The season will run from Oct. 1 to April 2.

Fasig-Tipton Texas catalogs 407 yearlings

Fasig-Tipton Texas will hold its annual summer yearling sale on Aug. 30-31. There are 407 yearlings catalogued to the sale, which will be held at a pavilion on the backstretch of Lone Star Park near Dallas.

Consignors include Lane's End Texas, Highclere Sales, Roger Daly, Bullard Farms, and Michael and Julia O'Quinn.

* The Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders' Sales Company will hold its summer mixed sale on Sunday at Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette, La. The sale begins at 10 a.m. Central.

* Rapid Red Perry, a Quarter Horse yearling colt by Mr Jess Perry, topped the Texas Quarter Horse Association auction at Sam Houston Race Park last Saturday when he commanded a bid of $140,000.

* Remington Park will close entries for most race days this meet 48 hours in advance. In the past, entries closed at least 72 hours out. The new policy should reduce scratches, said Fred Hutton, director of racing at Remington.
