Sandbetweenurtoes is now a two-time champion of the Ellamony Stakes at Flamboro Downs

Sandbetweenurtoes defended her Ellamony Stakes championship with a 1:53 1/5 performance in the C$100,000 contest for pacing mares on Saturday night at Flamboro Downs.

Witch Dali (James MacDonald) grabbed early control, but she was overtaken by favored Solar Sister (Doug McNair) at the 26 3/5 opening quarter.  Solar Sister would go on to reach the half in just 55 4/5, with Waasmula (Bob McClure) moving up first-over out of fourth and Sandbetweenurtoes (Alfie Carroll) following the cover.

Waasmula was able to clear Solar Sister for the lead just prior to the 1:24 2/5 three-quarters, but Sandbetweenurtoes didn't lose interest despite losing her cover.  She would advance around the final bend to join Waasmula, then overtook her halfway down the stretch.  From there, it was all Sandbetweenurtoes as she went on to defeat Waasmula by just over two lengths.  Solar Sister held third.

"I wasn't really expecting to get a second-over trip with the six-hole and that, but a couple of them made breaks, and then it worked out that we did get it," said Carroll.  "She raced awesome.  The track's as good as it could be, but it's cool and misty and stuff, so that was a big mile.  She seems to love this place."

Richard Moreau trains Sandbetweenurtoes, a 5-year-old mare by Somebeachsomewhere, for owner Brad Grant.  Sandbetweenurtoes picked up her 18th career victory, and she has now earned C$727,722.  Sent off at 9-2, Sandbetweenurtoes paid $11.40 to win.
