Five by Freud available at OBS sale

Freud is one of several New York stallions represented by multiple offerings in the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company June 2-year-olds in training sale that takes place Tuesday and Wednesday.

More than 80 New York-bred juveniles are consigned to the sale, including five offspring of Freud.

Nathan Wallis, agent, has consigned a New York-bred Freud colt out of Concernia, by Concern. Concernia's mother, Sanctionize, is a half-sister to the classy Regal Sanction, winner of the Grade 2 Pegasus Handicap.

Freud 2-year-olds have averaged $52,667 so far in 2008.

A full brother to Giant's Causeway, Freud stands at Sequel Stallions New York in Hudson for a fee of $10,000.

State sire Hook and Ladder has three in the OBS June catalog.

M & H Training and Sales, agent, is selling a Hook and Ladder filly named Firey Splendor. Her dam, the Olympio mare Lone Splendor, is a statebred half-sister to Moonlight Paradise, winner of the Group 3 Rockfel Stakes in England and placed in the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes.

This family also includes New York-bred Noble Flyer, winner of the Catskill Stakes.

Hook and Ladder is also at Sequel Stallion New York for a fee of $10,000. His current juvenile sales average is $55,105. Hook and Ladder is the sire of Big Truck, winner of this year's Grade 3 Tampa Bay Derby.

A colt by Roaring Fever named Hit or Miss is a half-brother to statebred Spectacularspencer, an earner of $286,347 who placed in the Alex M. Robb Handicap.

Hit or Miss is out of the Signal Tap mare Spectaculaireontap, who placed in the Ticonderoga Handicap. Third dam Carolina Moon was a group stakes winner in France.

Hit or Miss is consigned by Journeyman Bloodstock (Brent and Crystal Fernung), agent.

Roaring Fever, whose first runners are 2-year-olds this year, stands at Dutchess Views Farm/Metropolitan Stud in Claverack for $5,000.

Sons of Smooth Jazz, Eltish flourishing

Smooth Air, a son of Buckridge Farm stallion Smooth Jazz, won the Grade 2 Ohio Derby last month to go with his earlier win in the Grade 2 Hutcheson Stakes.

Smooth Air sent his career earnings to $575,500 with the victory.

Smooth Jazz's fee at the Kinderhook, N.Y., farm of Amy Boll is $3,000.

Eltish, who stands at Keane Stud in Amenia, N.Y., for $3,500, is the sire of El Sultry Sun, winner of the Lamplighter Stakes at Monmouth Park.

Eltish is also the sire of Shes All Eltish, winner of the Grade 2 Bonnie Miss Stakes this year. He has 12 stakes winners from seven crops to race.

Artax's daughter Magnetic Miss captured the Your Ladyship Stakes at Arlington Park for her fourth stakes win.

Artax, an Eclipse Award sprint champion, stands at Fever Stallions in Coxsackie, N.Y., for a fee of $3,500. He is also the sire of Diabolical, an earner of nearly $900,000.

Pays to Dream retired

The top New York-bred turf runner Pays to Dream has been retired because of a leg injury he sustained while finishing third in the Grade 1 Manhattan Handicap on Belmont Stakes Day.

Bred and owned by December Hill Farm, Pays to Dream won 5 of 15 starts and $377,741. He was trained by David Donk.

Pays to Dream competed in turf stakes for the last eight starts of his career.

Prior to the Manhattan, he captured the Grade 2 Dixie Handicap at Pimlico on the Preakness undercard. He also hit the board in the Saranac and Jamaica handicaps, both graded events.

Pays to Dream is by High Yield out of Changing Ways, by Time for a Change.

High Yield, by Storm Cat, won the Grade 1 Hopeful and Grade 1 Blue Grass stakes during his racing career.

December Hill, founded by the late Allan Dragone, former board chairman of the New York Racing Association, campaigned Changing Ways. She won the Grade 2 Schuylerville Stakes at Saratoga in 1994 and is also the dam of Hot Attraction, who placed in the Grade 3 Santa Ynez Stakes.

Changing Ways is a half-sister to Jacodra's Devil, winner of the Grade 3 Santa Anita Breeders' Cup, from a family that also includes multiple graded stakes winner Tejano Run.

Changing Ways produced a colt this year by Hennessy, who also is a son of Storm Cat.
