First stakes win for Ballroom Deputy

Ballroom Deputy ($11.70) scored her first stakes victory with a decisive one-length win in the Grade 3, $251,600 at Woodbine.

Trained by Josie Carroll for Padua Stables, Ballroom Deputy had a perfect stalking trip, running in third place early in the 1 1/4-mile event under jockey Dino Luciani while recent stakes winner Schooner Bay and longshot Springledge shared the lead.

At the head of the stretch, Luciani sent Ballroom Deputy three wide to join the leaders. She surged ahead at the eighth pole and held off Quick Temper and jockey Todd Kabel.

Quick Temper was a neck ahead of longshot Silver Impulse, who finished third.

Ballroom Deputy, a 4-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Silver Deputy, won for the fifth time in 17 starts. In her previous start, the filly was third in the Lighthouse Stakes at Monmouth Park.

With the Maple Leaf win, Ballroom Deputy, who was bred by Linda Ramsey, boosted her career earnings to $295,347.
