First Frankel foal to be offered at Goffs on Monday

A colt by Frankel will be the first foal by the unbeaten champion offered at public auction when he goes through the ring at the inaugural Goffs London sale, in association with QIPCO, Monday, June 16.

The colt will sell at the side of his dam, Crystal Gaze, who is back in foal to Frankel. The pair is consigned by Tweenhills Farm Stud, as agent for owner Qatar Bloodstock.

“He is very correct with huge presence and great action,” Tweenhills owner and manager David Redvers said of the colt. “He has what I would call a typical Frankel temperament in that he knows he is special and really owns the show. At this stage he looks like a speedy type, which is no surprise given his dam line.”

Crystal Gaze, an unraced daughter of Rainbow Quest, is the dam of four winners from as many starters. Her top runner is French Group 2 winner Spirit Quartz, who is also a Group 3 winner in Italy and Group 1-placed in England.

Out of the stakes-placed El Gran Senor mare Jumilla, Crystal Gaze is a full sister to Desert Quest, a stakes winner over hurdles, and a half to flat stakes winner Jonquil and hurdle stakes winner Stocktons Wing.

Frankel, Europe’s Horse of the Year in 2011 and 2012, is currently standing his second season at owner-breeder Juddmonte’s Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket, England.
