First foal by J P's Gusto arrives in Florida

The first reported foal by Grade 1 winner J P's Gusto is a colt born Feb. 23 at Journeyman Bloodstock in Ocala, Fla.

The colt is out of the winning Belong to Me mare Golden Horseshoe, a half-sister to stakes-placed Helen's Startax. Their dam, the stakes-winning Strike the Gold mare Striking Profile, is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Boom Towner, stakes winner and producer Kryptonic, and stakes-placed Frank Lark.

Journeyman sold the colt’s half-brother, a 2010 colt by their stallion Wildcat Heir, for $170,000 to agent Steve Young at last year’s Ocala Breeder’s Sales Co. spring 2-year-olds in training sale.

Bred by WinStar Farm, J P's Gusto won four stakes races as a juvenile in California, capturing the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity, Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes, Grade 3 Hollywood Juvenile Championship Stakes and Willard L. Proctor Memorial Stakes.

The Successful Appeal horse, who went on to capture the Red Legend Stakes as a 3-year-old, also finished second in the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity, Grade 1 Norfolk Stakes, and Grade 3 Southwest Stakes. He concluded his career with five wins from 12 starts for earnings of $811,760.

J P's Gusto stands at Journeyman Stud for a fee of $2,000 in 2013.
