Firetrail dangerous shipper

AUBURN, Wash. - Firetrail will meet six other 3-year-old fillies when she makes her Emerald Downs debut in Friday's feature, a six-furlong allowance.

Firetrail, trained by Junior Coffey, has been idle since posting an impressive win over maiden special weight company at Golden Gate Fields on Feb. 10. Racing five furlongs over a sloppy track, Firetrail stalked the pace in second before taking command in the upper stretch and drawing out for a 1 1/4-length score, good for a Beyer Speed Figure of 84.

Firetrail resumed training here this spring and has recorded four official workouts, including a half-mile in a quick 45.80 seconds on May 15.

Firetrail may get her sternest test from Cascade Rose, who finished second to stablemate Irene's Bonus Baby in last September's $100,000 Barbara Shinpoch Stakes at a mile.

Cascade Rose, a regally bred daughter of Giant's Causeway who is trained by Doris Harwood, most recently finished a troubled sixth to Eddie's Favorite in a $40,000 optional claiming race here on May 13. Cascade Rose bobbled at the break to get away slowly in that race, then tired after rushing up to chase the early pace. She came back to post a sharp three-furlong blowout in 36.20 on Wednesday.

The sleeper could be Speedingly, who woke up dramatically on May 13. Entered against modest $7,500 maidens, Speedingly drew off to post a 14-length victory in 1:03.40 for 5 1/2 furlongs.
