Firestone, owner/breeder, dies

D. Morgan Firestone, a prominent Ontario owner and breeder who had been in failing health for several years, died at his Hamilton-area home on Tuesday at age 78.

Successful in fields including construction, plastics, and motor homes, Firestone was also a noted philanthropist.

Firestone came from a long line of horsepeople, and his mother, Dorothy Firestone Galbreath, was co-owner of Darby Dan Farm in Kentucky with her husband, John Galbreath. Firestone won the 2007 Queen's Plate with his homebred Mike Fox.

A service for Firestone is scheduled for 11 a.m Saturday at Central Presbyterian Church, 165 Charlton Avenue West, Hamilton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph's Healthcare Foundation, Firestone Institute of Respiratory Health.
