Finnegans Wake, a Grade 1 winner who earned more than $1.5 million, will enter stud at Ballena Vista Farm in Ramona, Calif., next month.

Finnegans Wake will stand for $3,500. Owner Gary Hartunian has retained ownership through his Rockingham Ranch stable.

An 8-year-old by the Sadler’s Wells stallion Powerscourt, Finnegans Wake won 8 of 37 starts and earned $1,594,665 in a six-season campaign from 2011 to 2016 for Jerry Crawford’s Donegal Ranch and later in partnership with Hartunian.

Initially trained by Dale Romans and later by Peter Miller in California, Finnegans Wake had the best span of his career from late 2014 through the spring of 2015 with Miller, winning four stakes in five starts.

Finnegans Wake won three consecutive Grade 2 races in California – the Hollywood Turf Cup at Del Mar, and San Gabriel and San Marcos Stakes at Santa Anita before winning the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic on the Kentucky Derby undercard at Churchill Downs in May 2015.

Finnegans Wake had one win in five starts in 2016, an optional claimer at Santa Anita last June. He made the final start of his career in the Grade 2 Del Mar Handicap last August, finishing sixth behind Ashleyluvssugar.

Finnegans Wake is out of Boat’s Ghost, by Silver Ghost. Finnegans Wake is a half-brother to Puca, who was second in the Grade 2 Gazelle Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Aqueduct in April 2015.
