Finger Lakes track report

Trainers Nancy McCabe and Philip Mills, whose horses were a combined 0 for 65 this year, both got their first win within a span of three races last Friday at Finger Lakes.

The 4-year-old filly Elaine Marie ($52.50), despite being forced to take up entering the stretch, drew off by 2 3/4 lengths under Joel Sone in race 2 to snap McCabe's 0-for-34 drought.

In race 5, John Grabowski rode Wecandobetter ($8.50) to a victory, giving Mills his first win following 31 consecutive losses.

* Owner-trainer Joseph Marton tempted fate when he ran red-hot 4-year-old filly Demus for a $12,500 claiming tag last Saturday. Demus ($3.60) extended her winning streak to four races by romping to a 13-length victory under jockey Michael Davila. Marton lost her when trainer Jeremiah Englehart dropped in a claiming slip on behalf of owners Justin and Gerald Haers. Demus's average winning margin during her streak, which includes an allowance at Mountaineer, is 9 1/2 lengths.

* Jennifer Schmidt scored with her first mount since losing her apprentice allowance when she guided Behrometer ($17.20) to her maiden victory on Tuesday.

* Daniel Centeno has ridden eight winners in three racing days to move within two of third-place Grabowski in the jockey standings.
