Finger Lakes: Top Shoter seeks 3-peat

Top Shoter, last season's outstanding horse at Finger Lakes, where he is 7 for 8 lifetime, seeks to capture the George W. Barker Handicap for the third straight year.

The Barker, which goes as race 6, is co-featured with the Susan B. Anthony Handicap for fillies and mares. Both $50,000 stakes are restricted to New York-breds and will be contested at six furlongs.

Top Shoter, trained and owned by Charlton Baker, returns to Finger Lakes for the first time since his streak of seven consecutive wins at the western New York oval was snapped when he finished third attempting to stretch out in the 1 1/16-mile Genesee Valley last September.

You Willgo Broke, who is 7 for 11 at Finger Lakes, and Taking the Redeye, cutting back to a sprint after a series of routes at Belmont and Aqueduct, are Top Shoter's chief competition.

The top contenders in the Susan B. Anthony are Speed Bag, who was sharp enough to finish second against open company in the Correction Handicap at Aqueduct in February; last year's winner, Ruby's Rocket, who owns a 10-for-36 record locally; and Storm on the Lake, a stakes winner who ended a more than two-year winless drought when she wired a group of sprinters in an overnight handicap two weeks ago.
