Sinbad the Sailor wins the Gennesee Valley Breeders' Handicap for New York-breds at Finger Lakes on Saturday.

Sinbad the Sailor, winless in six starts dating back to November 2004, paid $71.50 after outgaming 3-5 favorite Top Shoter in a hard-fought, stretchlong battle in the 1 1/16-mile Gennesee Valley Breeders' Handicap for New York-breds at Finger Lakes. Top Shoter, who set the early pace, dug in when challenged by the winner on the far turn, then was nipped for second by a head in deep stretch by the late-running S. Cherry Legacy. Sinbad the Sailor, who won the $50,000 race by a neck, was timed in 1:43.57.

* Ruby's Rocket came from just off the pace to score a 7-1 upset in the $50,000 Jack Betta Be Rite Handicap for statebreds. Ruby's Rocket ($16.20) drew off in the stretch to win by 5 1/4 lengths under jockey Jose Martinez Jr. while being timed in 1:44.19 for the 1 1/16 miles.
