A pair of late-season stakes for New York-bred 2-year-olds are the only changes planned for the 2013 season at Finger Lakes Casino and Racetrack.
As additions to the 13 stakes presented in 2012, the Tin Cup Chalice for colts and geldings and the Shesastonecoldfox for fillies will be contested as part of a stakes triple-header on Sept. 28. Both races will be contested at six furlongs and be worth $50,000.
As usual, the season’s highlights will be the $200,000 New York Breeders’ Futurity on Sept. 28 and the $150,000 New York Derby on July 20.
All 15 stakes, worth a collective $1.1 million, are restricted to New York-breds.
Finger Lakes plans to offer 162 days of live racing – one fewer than in 2012. The season will run from April 20 to Dec. 10.
Identical to last year, the track will have live racing five days a week – Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday – beginning in mid-May and alter its schedule to Monday through Friday from Nov. 4 until the end of the meet.
First post time will remain at 1:10 p.m. Eastern daily except Fridays, when the first race will start at 12:35 p.m.
Best Bets
On the heels of a super-fast performance at Aqueduct, BIG SCREEN was close to a blistering pace in a strong renewal of the Westchester and stayed in contention to the stretch; only loss in allowance company this year was a second to Cigar Street, who subsequently won a Grade 3. SUMMER SUNSET has posted exacta finishes seven of eight starts since claimed last spring; reliable gelding faster than ever at age 4.
