Finger Lakes: Princess Mara invades for Susan B. Anthony Handicap

Trainer David Jacobson brought a recently claimed horse to win the first stakes of the Finger Lakes season on Memorial Day and looks poised to make that a pattern in Saturday’s $50,000 Susan B. Anthony Handicap for New York-bred fillies and mares.

Jacobson ran his record at Finger Lakes to 7 for 14 over the past several seasons when Uncle T Seven, making his first start off the claim, snapped a 22-race losing streak in the George W. Barker on May 27. On Saturday, he will saddle Princess Mara, a mare he claimed April 19 out of a winning effort going long on turf for $16,000. She won her first start for Jacobson back on the main track and cuts back from a mile to six furlongs for the Susan B. Anthony.

The 10-horse field also includes Princess Phoebe, who steps up to make her stakes debut after winning five straight races over the past two seasons, and Saichi Sweepin, who seeks her third straight win and owns a 6-for-9 record at Finger Lakes.
