Finger Lakes: Pretty Cozzy takes Susan B. Anthony with help from stablemate

Pretty Cozzy took advantage of a speed duel caused in part by her stablemate Sweet Hot Toddy, and came home strongly to win the $50,000 Susan B. Anthony Handicap at Finger Lakes on Saturday.

Nicole’s Miss El led into the stretch of the six-furlong Susan B. Anthony and ended up second, two lengths behind Pretty Cozzy and 2 ½ lengths in front of third-place finisher Clean Jean.

Pretty Cozzy and jockey John Davila Jr. sat fifth early in the field of six New York-bred fillies and mares, with Sweet Hot Toddy and Nicole’s Miss El battling through fractions of 21.54 and 44.02. Nicole’s Miss El put away Sweet Hot Toddy heading into the stretch, but Pretty Cozzy ran her down with six furlongs in 1:11.26.

Owned by Francis Paolangeli and trained by Charlton Baker, Pretty Cozzy paid $4 to win as part of the favored entry. A Broken Vow filly, Pretty Cozzy ran her Finger Lakes record to 4-1-2 in 7 starts there.
