Finger Lakes: Frisky Warrior top local horse of 2013

Frisky Warrior, a five-time winner this season, was chosen as horse of the year for 2013 at Finger Lakes during the local Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association awards dinner.

A 4-year-old gelding owned and trained by Ralph D’Alessandro, Frisky Warrior won 5 of his 8 Finger Lakes starts this year, all in sprints, while ridden by the meet’s leading rider, Jamie Rodriguez.

Frisky Warrior surpassed the $200,000 mark in lifetime earnings after winning his most recent start on Oct. 24. He was also honored as the track’s top older male.

Other horses honored as best in their category included Ecoach, older female; Peter’s Project, 3-year-old male; Shades of Sugar, 3-year-old filly; Dan’s Gold, allowance male; Capella Dancer, allowance female.

Ramon Umana, the track’s veterinarian from 1964 through 2000, was inducted into the Finger Lakes Hall of Fame during the awards dinner.
