Financingavailable scores in Ballade

Financingavailable ($3.40) overhauled front-running Shot Gun Ela early in the stretch before pulling away for a comfortable score in the $126,200 Ballade Stakes at Woodbine.

Financingavailable's time, 1:09.31, lowered Woodbine's six-furlong Polytrack record by .07 second. It was her first start since she was voted the 2006 Sovereign Award as champion older female in Canada.

Shot Gun Ela set rapid fractions of 21.65 seconds and 44.18 while being stalked by Bosskiri. Financingavailable raced in third early under Todd Kabel, and began to make up ground on the turn. She opened up a clear lead nearing the eighth pole and held off a closing Executive Flight to win by 1 1/2 lengths. Shot Gun Ela faded to third in the eight-horse field of Ontario-sired fillies and mares.

"She broke on top, and settled back nicely," Kabel said. "I was able to dictate everything up front. She showed why she was the champ last year."

Financingavailable, trained by Lorne Richards for owner K.K. Sangara, earned $75,000.
