Finallymadeit shows class

EmailFinallymadeit, the iron horse of the local handicap division, shows no signs of slowing down despite his heavy workload. The durable 3-year-old added the $35,000 Radar Love Stakes to his already impressive 2007 resume, defeating D'artagnans'spirit and Winnies Tigger Too following a pace battle that lasted nearly the whole race.

Making his 18th start of the year and 11th since the middle of June, Finallymadeit ($4.80) dueled with Winnies Tigger Too from the outset of the 6 1/2-furlong Radar Love. Finallymadeit, a son of Concerto, held a short advantage leaving the turn, then held on despite failing to change leads through the stretch.

D'artagnans'spirit made a quick move to contention leaving the backstretch, continued wide off the turn, but could not offer the necessary final spurt, finishing a neck behind the winner and a similar margin ahead of the stubborn Winnies Tigger Too.

Owned by Rolbea Thoroughbred Racing and trained by Javier Negrete, Finallymadeit notched his eighth win overall and sixth stakes tally of the season while increasing his 2007 earnings to more than $340,000. Finallymadeit was ridden to victory by Eduardo Nunez, who 30 minutes earlier won the $35,000 Connie Ann Stakes on Running Lass.

Running Lass entered the Connie Ann Stakes winless in 2007 but came away with a 2 1/4-length decision over Amazing Speed. Forever Together, the 6-5 favorite, finished third.

Running Lass ($15.40) set modest fractions of 22.57 seconds and 45.48, and repulsed a bid from Amazing Speed around the turn and into the stretch before edging clear. Amazing Speed, who entered the seven-furlong Connie Ann off a pair of stakes wins around two turns, did not match strides with the winner through the final furlong but outlasted Forever Together by a head to finish second.

Running Lass, a 4-year-old daughter of Running Stag, is trained by Angel Salinas for owners Michael Sherman and William Condren.
