Finallymadeit romps in Hooting Star

EmailSouth Florida's wet weather may bother some people. But it's certainly no problem for trainer Javier Negrete or his speedy 3-year-old Finallymadeit.

For the third time this season, Finallymadeit benefited when a race was taken off the turf, drawing off impressively through the stretch to an easy 6 1/2-length decision over Bow Out in the $50,000 Hooting Star Stakes at Calder. The Hooting Star scratched down from eight to five starters after it was moved to the main track following several days of heavy rain.

Finallymadeit ($3.20), a son of Concerto, put away an early challenge from Bow Out, settled into the stretch with a commanding advantage, then extended his lead under steady urging from jockey Eduardo Nunez. Finallymadeit's final time of 57.75 seconds came within 0.15 of the course record set 11 years earlier by Honest.

Bow Out, who steadied off the winner into the far turn, eased outside and re-rallied to finish second, 1 1/4 lengths in front of Tale of a Monster. Far West and Dirtymoposse rounded out the order of finish.

Charlie Papa, who owns a seven-race win streak, was scratched by trainer Connie Kendall after he came down with a mild case of colic earlier in the week.
