Final ratings up for Preakness

NBC's broadcast of last Saturday's Preakness Stakes drew a final rating of 5.7, according to the network, a 21.3 percent gain over the broadcast last year.

The 5.7 rating applied to the portion of the broadcast from 5 to 6:50 p.m Eastern. Before 5 p.m., NBC broadcast a "pre-Preakness show" that had a rating of 2.5. Last year, the rating for that time slot was a 1.5, according to NBC.

The final two hours of the broadcast received a 14 share, a measure of the percentage of televisions in use that are tuned to the broadcast. Last year, share was a 12.

This year's rating and share were the best since 2004, when the rating was a 6.1 and share was 15.
