Final pair of regional Challenge stakes Sunday


The Grade 2, $84,780 Southwest Challenge and the $35,540 West/Southwest Juvenile Challenge, the final two stakes of the 2006 regional Challenge series, will be contested at Turf Paradise on Sunday.

The winners of those two stakes will be the final two qualifiers to their respective stakes during the Challenge Championships at Lone Star Park on Nov. 11.

The West/Southwest Challenge features the two trial winners, Budj and Special Task Force. Budj is the fastest qualifier with a 21.447-second time for 440 yards. Special Task Force, winner of his latest two races, has won two Grade 1 stakes and won or placed in 14 graded stakes during his 28-race career.

The West/Southwest Juvenile Challenge has Chiselled in Glory, the fastest qualifier, racing for his fourth win in five career starts.
