Upsets at Laurel and Santa Anita helped boost the payoff of Saturday's $2 Magna 5 to $29,866.60 for 17 ticket-holders.

The winners of the Magna 5 races were Whats What ($30.20) in the ninth race at Laurel, Storminbayoubabe ($34.40) in the fifth at Santa Anita, High Fly ($4.40) in the Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park, Miss Del Mar ($4.80) in the sixth at Santa Anita, and Love to Tango ($16.80) in the 13th at Gulfstream Park.

High Fly and Miss Del Mar were favored.

Saturday's Magna 5 was the final session of the year for the weekly bet, which linked five races across the nation from tracks owned by Magna Entertainment Corp.

The bet had mixed results this year. While an all-time pool high of $701,105 was reached on Feb. 19, there were three instances over the 10-week period when wagers into the pool failed to reach $500,000, the minimum amount guaranteed by Magna Entertainment.

Saturday's pool was a strong $650,941, the fourth highest pool of the season.

Payoffs ranged from a low of $150.40 to a high of $406,985.80 on Jan. 29.
