Final Magna 5 pays $1,074

On a day dominated by low-priced winners, Saturday's $2 Magna Pick 5 returned an all-time low of $1,074.20 to 380 ticketholders.

The winners were Water Cannon ($7.60) in the Federico Tesio Stakes at Pimlico; Victory Girl ($3.40) in the fifth race at Santa Anita; Adreamisborn ($8) in the fifth race at Bay Meadows; Royal Teresa ($4.60) in the sixth race at Santa Anita; and Janeian ($8.40) in the Irving Distaff Stakes at Lone Star Park.

Victory Girl and Royal Teresa were favored. The shortest price in the Magna 5 races was Bedanken at 2-5 in the Irving Distaff Stakes. She finished third.

In the fourth leg, the sixth race at Santa Anita, Letra de Cambio was a late scratch. Bettors who included that filly on their tickets had the selection revert to Royal Teresa.

The Magna 5 was offered on Saturday for the final time this spring. Launched in January, the weekly five-race bet required bettors to select the winners of races run throughout the country.

Saturday's Magna 5 handled $522,730, surpassing the $500,000 minimum guaranteed by Magna Entertainment, the parent company of the four racetracks.

The Magna 5 was launched on Jan. 31. The payoffs ranged from a high of $205,703 on Feb. 28 to Saturday's low. The bet handled a record $621,821 on April 3 and a low of $457,698 on April 10.

It failed to reach the $500,000 minimum three times.
